JOB SUMMARY

The Certified Medical Assistant performs duties within the scope of education and experience and under the direct supervision of the primary R.N., L.P.N., Nurse Practitioner or Physician.
 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

 
  1. Patient intake (chief complaint, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, height and weight).
  2. Under physician orders, perform laboratory procedures such as culture, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, blood work.  Perform EKG’s, vision/hearing screenings and respiratory treatments.
  3. Assist physician with procedures.
  4. Return phone calls to patients with physician’s orders or recommendations as directed by physician.
  5. Administer oral medications, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections per physician’s order.
  6. Open and stock rooms.  May order supplies if so designated.
  7. Pull charts. Post signed dictation and lab results.
  8. Assist patient in scheduling recommended referrals.
  9. May perform some clerical duties such as copying needed forms, typing and/or posting physician correspondence.
  10. Care and autoclaving of supplies and equipment.
  11. Maintain up-to-date knowledge and continue education in CMA and health care by reading and attending conferences.  Keep up-to-date on Family Healthcare’s policies, procedures and protocol.
  1. Participate in the Quality Assurance Program.  Attend all other mandated meetings related to the practice of nursing within the organization.
  2. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients ranging from newborn to geriatric.
  3. Other duties as directed by supervisor
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. High School Diploma
  2. Completion of Medical Assistant Program
  3. Certification required
  4. Computer skills, good telephone skills
  5. Knowledge of Medical Records guidelines
  6. Exemplary customer service skills
