JOB SUMMARY

 
The primary function of the L.P.N. is to perform nursing duties within the scope of the education and expertise of the L.P.N. under the supervision of the Office Manager/Provider.
 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

 
  1. Initial intake of patient including medical history, vital signs, screening procedures as indicated by protocol and documentation of duties performed.
  2. Assist physician with procedures including minor surgeries, biopsies, colposcopies, castings, aerosol treatments, wound dressings and suture removal.
  3. With physician orders or protocol perform certain laboratory procedures including cultures, urinalysis, pregnancy testing and blood sugars.  Perform either capillary stick or venipucture to obtain specimens for ordered lab work including routine panels and profiles
  4. Administer oral, subcutaneous or intramuscular medications per physician order; administer immunizations per protocol.  May also perform intravenous therapy with certification.
  5. Accurately record all observations, results, medications and treatments on all appropriate forms.
  6. Within the scope of training and experience operate office medical equipment and readily learn any new equipment added to the medical practice.
  7. Assist in scheduling physician recommended procedures and appointments
  1. Maintain up-to-date knowledge and continue education in nursing and health care.
  2. Keep up-to-date on BTAMC policies, procedures and protocols
  3. Attend all other mandated meetings related to the practice of nursing within the organization.
  4. Patient education within scope of own education at each visit or by telephone.
  5. Phone triage of patient calls.
  6. Assist in orientation of new employees as directed.
  7. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients ranging from newborn to geriatric.
  8. Participate in the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement Program
  9. Other duties as directed by supervisor
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Graduate from an accredited technical school for Licensed Practical Nursing including pharmacology
  • Current Pennsylvania License for practical nursing
  • State pharmacology license preferred
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to take responsibility for a specific program
